AI-assisted CAM programming, built into SolidCAM.

CAM Assist runs inside SolidCAM and generates real SolidCAM operations — iMachining 3D, HSS, 2.5D Mill and Pro 3D HSM — ready to review, simulate and post. Same CAM. Same post-processor. More speed.

What is CAM Assist?

Same CAM. More speed.

CAM Assist is an AI accelerator that runs inside SolidCAM. It analyses your part and generates a working toolpath base using SolidCAM’s own operations — iMachining 3D, HSS, 2.5D Mill and Pro 3D HSM — for you to review, refine and post with the workflow you already use.

Your programmer stays in control. CAM Assist generates the base set; you adjust before sending to SolidCAM and can refine further inside SolidCAM as usual.

Where it shines

Is your part a fit?

Be honest about the part in front of you. CAM Assist is not a one-size-fits-all magic button — its results vary from 20 % to 80 % depending on geometry.

Simple parts

Templates and manual programming are often adequate.

Sweet spot

Prismatic parts with 3D features of medium complexity. This is where CAM Assist delivers most value.

Very complex

Partial help only. Not a replacement for specialised strategies.

How it works

Four steps from CAD to spindle.

01

Update & enable

Run SolidCAM 2025 SP4 HF2 or newer, with 2.5D Mill, iMachining 3D, HSS and Pro 3D HSM modules active. CAM Assist comes pre-installed.

02

Prepare the CAM Part

Define stock, setup and fixturing in SolidCAM. Maintain an up-to-date CAM Part Toolkit with your real tools (cutter, shank and holder).

03

Run CAM Assist

Open the part inside SolidCAM and let CAM Assist analyse it. Pick 3-axis or 3+2-axis, set preferred directions and exclusion zones, generate the base toolpaths.

04

Review, refine, run

Inspect the operations before sending them to SolidCAM. Adjust strategies and parameters as usual, simulate and post with your existing post-processor.

Why it matters

What you actually get.

No headline number we can’t back up — just four outcomes that show up consistently in shops running CAM Assist on the right kind of part.

Programming speed

Generate a working toolpath base in minutes instead of hours — proportional to the share of prismatic / 3D features in the part.

Standardisation

Get repeatable operations on similar parts. Predictable cycle time and cost across operators and shifts.

Capacity without new hires

Absorb seasonal spikes and onboarding gaps. Free up your senior programmers for the work that needs them.

iMachining advantage

CAM Assist leverages iMachining for prismatic roughing — measurable tool-life and process-stability gains, not just speed.

Pre-requisites

What you need before you start.

Machine scope

Tooling & setup

Note: CAM Assist is part of your SolidCAM ecosystem. You keep the same post-processor, the same simulation, the same verification workflow.

Routes to more capacity

How to address the CAM programming bottleneck.

Do nothing

Strengths

No upfront investment.

Trade-offs

Bottlenecks persist. Competitors win on lead time.

Hire more CAM programmers

Strengths

Adds capacity and know-how.

Trade-offs

Hard to recruit, long onboarding, fixed cost stays even when workload drops.

Outsource programming

Strengths

Quick relief on backlog peaks.

Trade-offs

Less control over methodology and quality, longer feedback loops.

Overtime

Strengths

No new hires.

Trade-offs

Burns out senior people, doesn’t scale.

CAM Assist for SolidCAM

Recommended
Strengths

Cuts the routine part of programming on prismatic / 3+2 work. Predictable output, no new post-processor, same simulation.

Trade-offs

Not for free-form 3D, sim. 4/5-axis or turning. Programmer review still required.

FAQ

Common questions.

No. CAM Assist generates a toolpath base set. You review and refine it before sending it to SolidCAM, and you can keep refining it inside SolidCAM exactly the way you do today.

No. It is built for prismatic parts and 3-axis or 3+2-axis work. Simple parts may be faster with templates; very complex parts (free-form 3D surfacing, simultaneous 4/5-axis milling, turning, mill-turn) are out of scope.

It depends on the part. Results range from roughly 20 % to 80 % depending on geometry and how cleanly your setup and toolkit are prepared. We don’t promise a single number — we promise a measurable accelerator on the right kind of part.

SolidCAM 2025 SP4 HF2 or newer, the 2.5D Mill, iMachining 3D, HSS and Pro 3D HSM modules, a complete CAM Part Toolkit with real tools (cutter, shank and holder), and a defined, rigid setup.

No. CAM Assist creates SolidCAM’s own operations — iMachining 3D, pockets, drilling, chamfering, localised HSS 3D milling — and hands them off to SolidCAM for calculation, simulation and posting. You keep your existing SolidCAM post.

CAM Assist is an accelerator that integrates with various CAM systems. With SolidCAM, it speaks the platform natively: it generates SolidCAM operations (including iMachining 3D, HSS, Pro 3D HSM) instead of a generic toolpath, and stays inside your normal review / simulate / verify / post workflow.

CAM Assist is bundled with SolidCAM 2025 Service Pack 4 HF2 and newer. Make sure you are on a valid SolidCAM subscription.

Yes. CAM Assist runs the heavy analysis in secure CloudNC infrastructure. A stable internet connection on the workstation is required.

CloudNC operates the underlying service under SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus, with encryption in transit and at rest. CAM Assist does not train on customer data.
