Common questions.
Will I lose control over the toolpaths?
No. CAM Assist generates a toolpath base set. You review and refine it before sending it to SolidCAM, and you can keep refining it inside SolidCAM exactly the way you do today.
Does it work for any part?
No. It is built for prismatic parts and 3-axis, 3+1-axis or 3+2-axis work. Simple parts may be faster with templates; very complex parts (free-form 3D surfacing, simultaneous 4/5-axis milling, turning, mill-turn) are out of scope.
How much programming time does it actually save?
It depends on the part. Results range from roughly 20 % to 80 % depending on geometry and how cleanly your setup and toolkit are prepared. We don’t promise a single number — we promise a measurable accelerator on the right kind of part.
What do I need to get started?
SolidCAM 2025 SP4 HF2 or newer, the 2.5D Mill, iMachining 3D, HSS and Pro 3D HSM modules, a complete CAM Part Toolkit with real tools (cutter, shank and holder), and a defined, rigid setup.
Does CAM Assist need a new post-processor?
No. CAM Assist creates SolidCAM’s own operations — iMachining 3D, pockets, drilling, chamfering, localised HSS 3D milling — and hands them off to SolidCAM for calculation, simulation and posting. You keep your existing SolidCAM post.
CAM Assist already runs on other CAMs. What is different on SolidCAM?
CAM Assist is an accelerator that integrates with various CAM systems. With SolidCAM, it speaks the platform natively: it generates SolidCAM operations (including iMachining 3D, HSS, Pro 3D HSM) instead of a generic toolpath, and stays inside your normal review / simulate / verify / post workflow.
Which versions of SolidCAM are supported?
CAM Assist is bundled with SolidCAM 2025 Service Pack 4 HF2 and newer. Make sure you are on a valid SolidCAM subscription.
Does CAM Assist need an internet connection?
Yes. CAM Assist runs the heavy analysis in secure CloudNC infrastructure. A stable internet connection on the workstation is required.
How is my CAD data handled? Is it secure?
CloudNC operates the underlying service under SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus, with encryption in transit and at rest. CAM Assist does not train on customer data.
How do I buy CAM Assist for SolidCAM?
Contact your local SolidCAM reseller — the same channel you use for any other SolidCAM module. We’ll connect you if you don’t have a reseller yet.
